Singing Par Excellence

Athy College is proud of its Senior Choir who today with singer Barry Keatley performed for President McAleese at the opening ceremony of the National Ploughing Championship.

Also at the Ploughing Championship the IWAI (Inland Waterways) stand is featuring the Barrow Cot which is a boat constructed by last year's Leaving Certificate student Darren O'Keeffe.

Students from the college are also assisting the organisation of the Fashion Show. Well done to all.

Open Day

Our Open Days on Fri and Saturday saw over 600 visiting the college and Saturday in particular was an occassion which had a surge in enrolment applications for 2011 and following years. With only a few weeks left for acceptance of enrolments for next year the number of applicants has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations. We hope to be able to accommodate everybody and will be in contact with all who have lodged applications.

Driving the Message Home

Sixth year students were taken through their paces today with day long instruction on driving under the "Driving for Life" initiative. Among the initiatives introduced today was the use of a driving simulator where students got a real life feel for the impact that distractions can have on a drivers concentration.
With some tragic accidents this year involving young drivers it is hoped that initiatives like this may save lives and congratulations are due to Kildare Road Safety Officer Declan Keogh who organised the event.
